Seasons Center Announces Permanent Closure Of Camp Autumn

September 09, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Sutherland)– Seasons Center has announced it is closing Camp Autumn near Sutherland and putting land up for sale. In a press release, President and CEO Dan Ries says the Seasons Center Board made the decision after careful consideration. He says it was based on a number of factors, including the delayed rollout of Iowa’s Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic and Medicaid Demonstration Program; uncertainty surrounding the state’s management re-structure of behavioral health services and the launch of a new service system; and the reallocation of agency resources needed for flood recovery.

Camp Autumn provided trauma-informed care through therapeutic aspects of nature and evidence-based behavioral health programs and services. It had been in operation the past eight years.

Ries thanks those who have been part of the Camp Autumn community over the years. He adds that Seasons Center will continue to explore other opportunities to provide services to children and respite opportunities for parents and caregivers at other times and locations throughout the year.
