(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council Tuesday approved a grant program to assist property owners who sustained flood damage to the right-of-way property in front of their homes. Deputy City Manager Kevin Robinson says $30,000 will be available for a grant program, with $20,000 coming from the Clay County Community Foundation and $10,000 from the Spencer Cares Fund…
“A 50 percent match up to a 500 dollar cap. So for example if somebody spends a thousand dollars to repair their right-of-way in front of their house, they’d be eligible for 500. If you spent 800 dollars, half of that’s 400, you would not exceed the 500 dollars. So if everybody maxed out their right-of-way at a thousand dollars, that would be 60 properties. We think it will be more than 60 properties that could get repaired. So there would be, the program would be administered by staff. We would do a site visit at the beginning and at the end so when they send the application in we want to do a site visit to make sure it is a right-of-way that is in need of repair and then we would approve those funds. It would be on a reimbursement basis, so they would return the receipts in and then qualify for the grant.”
Robinson says they’re hoping to start the program within the next couple of weeks. He says those property owners who have already made repairs to their right-of-way will be able to seek reimbursement from the program as well.
