(Milford)– A major housing development in Milford is moving forward. Drew Hage of South Okoboji Development says they’ve finalized the sale of 17 acres of land to Green Acres Homes for single and multi-family homes, just off Highway 86 near GrapeTree Medical Staffing…
“This is a nice opportunity to have 85ish new homes in Milford. So this will be annexed into Milford and working with the city there. Also opportunities now as we get more housing units in this area, for more commercial. So there could be some commercial along Highway 86. We also have the lots that are around Perkins, there. So as we do additional residential development and build more density, definitely more opportunity for commercial and that’s some of our kind of next steps.”
Hage says there’s plenty of room there for additional growth after this phase is complete…
“The farm fields there are approximately 120 acres so there’s additional opportunities and we’re looking to partner and this means we’re going to sell and get infrastructure there. That is a big part of what we want to do is supporting the community, supporting businesses specifically on this with bringing in that workforce housing.”
Hage says the Milford Housing Study that was recently completed played a vital role in moving the project forward…
“So that provides the information that is needed for someone to say yeah, I do want to invest in Milford and look at the different tiers of housing that outlines that really nice, so we’re trying align some of our projects with that. So it’s not just doing a project that comes along, it’s trying to make a nice fit, work with the city, and we’ve got a positive first step here with this project.”
Hage says some site work could get underway yet this fall for this phase of the project.
