Okoboji Performing Arts Concludes Its Season

August 26, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– An organization that encourages area youth to get involved in the performing arts has wrapped up its season. Jessica Schable of Okoboji Performing Arts says it was a busy one for them…

“Our final event was our Summer Academy that we did this summer which was really great. It was the highest attended one we had and we had just a really fun time. The students learned musical theatre pieces and they danced and they acted and they had classes with the instructors that we hired. The older kids actually wrote their own musical. In four days they wrote their own show and they performed, everybody performed on our last day of camp and we just had a really good turnout and a really good time.”

Schable says they’re now gearing up for their “All Hallows” fundraising event coming up at 6:30 pm October 25th at The Roof Garden in Arnolds Park…

“We’ll have a live band with local musicians. They were amazing last year. They were so fun, they were great. And Tyler with the Roof Garden did amazing light for us, so it was a really cool show. They sang music that everybody would know, it’s like classic stuff. Jennifer Johnson, Tyler Petersen, Alicia Toft. Those are my for sures this year but I’m hoping to have a few more musicians. I’ll keep you posted on that as we get closer. We’ll have food, this amazing charcuterie by Back Ally Barbecue, and then we’re having cupcakes by Playful Cupcasians.”

A silent auction will also be part of the event. Schable says the proceeds will go toward Okoboji Performing Arts’ 2025 season…

“I’ve been talking with some artists from New York about potentially coming to do some programs for kids around the area. Hoping to do more outreach in the schools and some concerts. I’m working on putting it all together right now and I’m really excited about how we’re growing and able to support bringing more events like that into the area.”

Tickets for the October 25th event are $75 per person if purchased before October 1st. After that the cost is $85. You can find more information on their Facebook page or at Okoboji Performing Arts-dot-com.
