(Arnolds Park)-APO Fire & Rescue is getting ready for their 38th Annual Labor Day Auction. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue Department is seeking donations for their annual Labor Day Auction.
Duane Zahradnik says, proceeds from the event help maintain The Department’s Fire Boat. “The Fire Boat, it’s 20 years old. It’s so instrumental in water rescues. Say someone has a heart attack down on their dock. There’s a lot of steep banks here. We don’t have to bring the victim up all those steps. We bring the Fire Boat over and we have a rescue door which is only 4 inches off the water. We slide them in a stokes basket, take them to ground transportation. The Fire Boat is also good for a fire out on the lake, the fire suppression system. We pump 1,500 gallons per minute. We can supply water tankers, we can supply other engines. IT’s just such a versatile tool, we just want to keep this Fire Boat going and that’s why we’re trying to keep money raised for it.”
He adds that there are several ways to donate items. “They can contact me at my cell phone number 712-330-3509. They can drop it off at The Arnolds Park City Hall or they can drop it off at The Barefoot Bar. We’re still accepting donations. It’s a great event and 100 percent of the proceeds go to the Lakes Area Fire Boat.”
The 38th Annual APO Fire & Rescue will be held at The Barefoot Bar September 2 starting at 1 pm.
