(Estherville)– Officials with the Red Rock Energy Center project gave an update at Tuesday’s Emmet County Board of Supervisors meeting. The company says it now plans to put up 18 turbines in Emmet county, and is scaling back its project in Dickinson county, with the plans calling for about 70 turbines, compared to the 83 originally proposed. Dickinson county is in the process of updating its zoning ordinance pertaining to wind turbines. The Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on a recommendation from the county’s Planning and Zoning Commission and will likely take action on the matter May 14th.
A spokesman for the Red Rock Energy Center, being developed by Chicago-based Invenergy, says they are in the process of doing geo-technical studies in Emmet county to ensure the sites they’ve identified are suitable for the turbines that are being proposed.
In addition to Dickinson and Emmet counties, some of the turbines for the Red Rock Energy Center would also be located in Clay county.
