Proposed Pipeline Ordinance Headed Back To Dickinson County Board Of Supervisors

March 18, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– A proposed ordinance regulating the construction of pipelines in Dickinson county is headed back to the Board of Supervisors.

With two members of the seven member board absent, the county’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted this (Monday) morning to refer it back to the supervisors with revisions that were made during a joint meeting between the two entities in February. The supervisors are tentatively scheduled to take it up at their April 16th meeting.

Representatives of Summit Carbon Solutions who spoke at today’s (Mon.) Planning and Zoning Commission meeting again sited recent court rulings that they say would make any county ordinances unenforceable. Those speaking in favor of the county passing an ordinance say it’s vital the county have something on the record prior to the Iowa Utilities Board taking any action on the proposed carbon pipeline project.
