(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a proposal from the state for audio/visual upgrades to two of the county’s three courtrooms. It’s part of a process to make technology in the courtrooms consistent throughout the state. The county’s I-T Director, Alissa Holtz, says it comes on the heels of a county funded upgrade to courtrooms just a few years ago…
“We put in a new courtroom system in 2019 but it’s not consistent with everybody else because with ARPA money they put in new systems throughout the state, so the state would like to put in new ones. We met with the CTI. We have some plans that they don’t do anything over the floor, they don’t put anything in the woodwork, and any changes need to go through the county prior to them doing them. So we have the proposals but to the county it doesn’t mean anything because it will cost us nothing. So if there’s any cost at any time we put that back to the state.”
Holtz says she is concerned, however, over a limited warranty…
“It’s a five year warranty. After that they don’t have a plan. And so that would be my only drawback is if in five years they’re going to give it to us and then all of a sudden we have to figure out what to do with it when it doesn’t work, that’s my only drawback that I see in this plan.”
The motion that was approved states that the county will not be responsible for any future maintenance of the upgrades.
