Authorities in Clay county say several accidents in that county Friday can be attributed to the blizzard conditions that were going on at the time. One of those happed Friday morning in the 2800 mile of Highway 71 south. Deputies say 18-year-old Jaxon Wolff of Estherville was driving a 2004 Nissan southbound when he collided with a 2016 Ford F-150, driven by 62-year-old Wayne Enderle of Milford. Enderle’s vehicle sustained an estimated $2,500 in damage, while Wolff’s was considered a total loss.
A collision early Friday afternoon in that same area of Highway 71 involved a 2012 Chevrolet Impala driven by 65-year-old Steven Simonson of Spencer which collided with the rear of a 1990 GMC Sierra driven by 55-year-old John Ulveling of Spencer, who was attempting to stop for a jack knifed semi in the blizzard. Minor damage was reported to the vehicle driven by Ulveling; damage to the Impala driven by Simonson was estimate at $5,000. That collision took place a little after 12:30 pm.
Considerable property damage was reported in a two-vehicle collision a little before 3:00 pm Friday in the 2800 mile of Highway 18 in Clay county. The Sheriff’s Office says 44-year-old Deena Fries of Spencer was driving a 2016 Jeep Wrangler when she failed to see a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 50-year-old Joseph Quail of Spencer and collided with the rear of the vehicle. Authorities say Quail had slowed due to a snow drift that was on the roadway. Damage to the vehicle driven by Fries was estimated at $1,800 with about $15,000 in damage estimated to the pickup Quail was driving.
Authorities say fortunately no injuries were reported in any of the mishaps.
