Dickinson County Recorder’s Office Reports Increased Boat Registrations

September 14, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Things have been busy recently at one office in particular at the Dickinson County Courthouse. County Recorder Ann Ditsworth says her office saw a lot of traffic with people renewing registrations for boats. While the data is still somewhat preliminary with the registration deadline just recently closing, she says preliminary indications are those numbers were up significantly…

“We are awaiting our end-of-summer stats from the DNR, but clearly you can tell based on the numbers we’re ahead of where we were in ’19 and ’16, so. Some of that has to do with the costs were higher for some of the vessels that are being purchased. There’s a variety of things. But that is a strong growth area for us, I guess. And so things like when you’re talking about your eurasian watermilfoil and things of that nature, that ties right into these numbers. So I’m pleased to hear that’s a focus.”

Ditsworth says requests for vital records information were also up, primarily due to Real-I.D requirements for driver’s licenses. She says passport applications are also up. Ditsworth says another big demand on her office is coming from requests for information pertaining to real estate transactions…

“It is interesting that there are people throughout the United States and beyond that are looking at our land records, and so it’s something that our association through ISAC is watching, just with interest, and, you know, a measure of concern as well just to make sure that we are able to maintain integrity of those documents, and, also, you know, just what they’re being used for is also of interest.”

Ditsworth made her comments while giving her quarterly report at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
