(Milford)– Supply chain issues are threatening a major road project in Milford and a bid hasn’t even been let on it yet. Meeting in a joint session Monday evening with board of trustees of Milford Municipal Utilities, the city council voted to table action on awarding a bid for materials for the reconstruction of County Road A-34 from Highway 71 to the west city limits. The project is scheduled for next construction season.
The council took the action after learning from their engineer that ductile iron pipe that is part of the specifications for new water mains for the project, isn’t available and won’t be for at least 18 months out. Complicating matters is the fact that the city was received a significant amount of funding for the project from the Iowa Department of Transportation. It could be in jeopardy of losing that if the road project isn’t completed in the next year or two. Mayor Steve Anderson requested Milford Municipal Utilities change their specifications to allow for a plastic pipe instead, which he says is more readily available. But Mike Anderson, who is the chairman of the MMU trustees, said such a change would break precedence, drawing this response from the Mayor…
MMU trustees did agree to meet in coming days to review the possible change and to look into revising their water service policy.
