(Algona)– An investigation into a break-in at a bank in Kossuth county this past Thursday has resulted in the arrest of a Ledyard man who authorities say may be connected to a number of other crimes in the region.
The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called around 6:00 am Thursday to Bank Plus in Ledyard and discovered someone had entered the building and tried unsuccessfully to forcefully remove an ATM machine. Authorities were able to identify the suspect and vehicle involved through surveillance video. They also contacted law enforcement agencies in Palo Alto and Emmet counties in Iowa and Faribault county in Minnesota where ongoing investigations are underway into a stolen vehicle and several break-ins and thefts recently in those counties.
Information from the Bank Plus break-in resulted in authorities identifying a suspect vehicle, which had been stolen from Palo Alto county. They also gathered evidence on multiple reported crimes from a six county area. Authorities say that information led to the arrest of 25-year-old Jacob Govern of Ledyard. He was taken into custody in Martin county, Minnesota, on a burglary charge and on a warrant from Winnebago county for theft.
Authorities say additional charges are pending investigations that are ongoing in the other counties.
