(Rossie)– A Clay county woman has died after apparently being attacked by her own dogs. The Sheriff’s Office says deputies received a report Monday from a person who found a woman lying in a ditch who was believed to have been involved in a motorcycle accident. The person was unable to get close to the woman as several large dogs were near her. Upon arriving deputies determined the woman, 43-year-old Mindy Kiepe of rural Rossie, was deceased. Her body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The results indicated Kiepe died of multiple dog bites.
Authorities say a further investigation revealed that five great dane dogs owned by Kiepe had caused her death. The dogs were humanely euthanized with the assistance of a veterinarian.
Deputies add that Kiepe did not have a motorcycle accident. They say the incident took place just a short distance from the driveway to her farm.
The Sioux Rapids Fire Department, Royal Fire and Rescue, Iowa State Patrol, Clay County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office assisted in the matter.
