(Spirit Lake)– A debate is brewing as to whether or not electric-assisted bicycles should be allowed on Dickinson county’s trail system. Supervisor Jeff Thee brought it up at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, saying he’s starting to get complaints about them…
“Number one when they’re using it, and I know nothing against the throttle versus the non-throttle, but evidently going at high rates of speed compared to if you’re pedaling your own bike. This person said she was forced off of the trail because they were in groups and just came up on real quick and had no choice but to hop off the trails and her comment was it says no motorized vehicles on our trails. So the question being with electric bikes to use them, to not use them, or when they use them on the trails to not use the electric part of it.”
Thee says he’s brought the issue to the attention of Erin Reed, who oversees the trail system.
