While Most Crops Look Good, There Are Issues In Some Soybean Fields

July 20, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Lakefield, Mn.)– While most of the corn crop in the region is looking very good right now, that isn’t necessarily the case for soybeans in some places. Jim Nesseth of Extended Ag Services of Lakefield says root rot is causing some issues in fields where a lot of rain fell earlier…

“We’ve got a number of fields that have got some dead soybeans and in some scattered areas throughout the fields. Some are more severe than others and so I think it will affect a little bit of the yield there naturally and probably set the beans back some that just kind of got infected but didn’t die. So it’s going to affect some of our soybean yields but it’s just been a struggle with soybeans all along, Steve, when you go back to planting time and trying to get a stand established. We had, you know, poor stands. Some of those stands are about half of what we had planted and seeded and that, and so it’s just been a struggle with the soybeans.”

Nesseth says the issue doesn’t appear to be widespread, however.
