The Lakes Project to Feed Ukrainian Refugees seeks Volunteers for Food Packing Event August 10

July 12, 2022 Becky Thoreson

(Spirit Lake)-The Lakes Project is seeking volunteers to pack meals for Ukrainian Refugees next month. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

The Lakes Project to Feed Ukrainian Refugees plans to send more than 80,000 meals to Ukrainian Refugees in Poland.

Organizer Teresa Goehring says, area students are spearheading the effort. “The Lakes Project is really student-led, so it’s students from both Okoboji and Spirit Lake, St. Mary’s and St. Joseph Churches, that came together to really figure out a way to tangibly impact the lives of Ukrainian Refugees. The Lakes Project was created and marketed, and there’s 3 different teams that work together to be able to pack food, little prepackaged meals that we’re gonna send to Poland.”

She notes that volunteers are needed to help package the food on August 10th. “We are looking to have 300 volunteers for 3 different shifts. There’s a 9-11 shift, there’s a 2-4 shift and there’s a 6-8 shift. That is going to be at the Expo Building. We’re looking to pack 85,000 meals to go to Poland for the Ukrainian Refugees.”
