Storm Lake Implements New Water Restrictions

July 05, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Storm Lake)– Revised water restrictions go into effect today (Tues) for users of the Storm Lake water system. Watering of lawns or trees is prohibited on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Watering of lawns and trees on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and weekends is allowed ONLY outside peak hours of 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Residents are also being told not to seed or sod lawns until September 30 or otherwise directed. Those planning to do any power washing need to contact Storm Lake City Hall to schedule a time when there’s lower demand.

City officials say fines will be issued to violators. The restrictions will remain in place until further notice.

In recent weeks, the City has been averaging five-million gallons daily, which is the maximum amount that can be handled by the treatment plant. The City also has one well currently off line. Storm Lake City Manager Keri Navratil said they’re hoping to get a part for it by the end of July, but in the meantime, it’s putting stress on the City’s remaining wells.
