Okoboji Summer Theatre to present Pump Boys and Dinettes July 5-10

July 04, 2022 Becky Thoreson

(Okoboji)-The Okoboji Summer Theatre will open their first musical of the season on Tuesday night. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

The Okoboji Summer Theatre will open their production of Pump Boys and Dinettes on Tuesday evening.
Guest Director Allison Morooney says the musical will feature guest artists and local musicians. “We are all the guest artist on this show and we are joined by some fabulous students and interns, and then we have a bunch of local musicians joining us in the band. We just had our first rehearsal with them a couple of days ago and it’s rocking. The show is really 50 percent country, folk blues concert and 50 percent musical theatre piece, so it’s really cool. It takes place in Appalachia, North Carolina in 1979, and we have The Pump Boys and across the highway, we have The Dinettes, who are two sisters who work at a diner. It’s a great little show, great music, and charming characters. The actors even play some instruments, so it’s going to be a really good time.”
Pump Boys and Dinettes will run through Sunday at the Okoboji Summer Theatre.
The Boji Bantam Children’s Theatre will open their production of The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs on June 6.
