(Sioux City)– A man from Guatemala has been sentenced in federal court for illegally re-entering the U.S in a case that has ties to the region. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 24-year-old Alfredo Anibal Martin-Martin was sentenced Monday to more than a year in federal prison after having pled guilty in April of this year to one count of illegal re-entry.
At a plea hearing, Martin-Martin admitted to illegally re-entering the U.S after being deported in January, 2018. On December 29th, 2021, he was arrested in Sioux county for OWI, interference with official acts-bodily injury, and neglect or abandonment of a dependent person. Martin-Martin also had prior convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol and criminal vehicular operation-bodily injury in 2017 from Nobles county, Minnesota.
