Dickinson Co. Supervisors Approve P & Z Recommendation Regarding Campgrounds

June 28, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors today (Tues.) approved a recommendation from the county’s Planning and Zoning Commission to move campgrounds in areas zoned R-1 suburban residential and resort enterprise from permitted uses to conditional uses in those areas. Zoning Administrator David Kohlhaase says the move will allow for some “additional checks and balances”…

“So in those two districts as it stands today if somebody comes in and wants to do that they have to follow then only the bulk regulations in those zoning districts. Now if it gets changed to a conditional use, they still have to follow the bulk regulations. It still has to go through the Board of Adjustment for a conditional use requiring them to address those 14 standards that are required.”

The supervisors also voted to waive the 2nd and 3rd readings of the revision, adopting it.

On somewhat of a related matter, the supervisors also today (Tues.) were scheduled to talk about RV regulations, but that discussion was postponed to their next meeting July 12th.
