June 24, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the six recipients of the 2022 Iowa Great Lakes Walleye Weekend grant program. A total of $23,500 was available to be awarded. The City of Okoboji will receive $1,000; the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club was awarded $10,000; the Spirit Lake Protective Association, Okoboji Protective Association and the East Lake Okoboji Improvement Corporation were each awarded $4,000; and the Center Lake Improvement and Protective Association received $500.

Chamber officials say 10 tagged walleye remain in the Iowa Great Lakes chain of lakes. Anglers entered in the extended contest still have a chance at winning some prizes if they should happen to snag one of those fish up until August 21st. The first three tagged walleye will be paid out a portion of the registrations for this year’s extended contest.

2,000 anglers from 16 different states participated in this year’s Walleye Weekend.

The 41st annual Walleye Weekend is set for May 6th-7th, 2023.
