City Of Spencer Moving Ahead With Facilities Study

(Spencer)– The city of Spencer is moving ahead with a study of its facilities. The city council earlier this week voted to hire a Storm Lake firm to conduct the analysis at a cost not to exceed $49,930. Public Works Director Mark White told the council age is starting to catch up with some of the facilities…
“Through our capital improvement planning we had been adding a couple of buildings kind of toward the end, towards the fifth year, and some of our facilities are starting to age. Just as an example, it’s hard to believe our street division is 40 years old. We can’t get the, raise the garbage trucks up high enough to work inside and so I had put, you know, we need an addition into the capital improvement plan but we didn’t quite know what we needed at that point. And then that just kind of morphed along, hey we should look at this facility and other ones as well. So to be able to do sound and prudent planning we felt it was important to get our arms around where we’re at with the condition of our facilities.”
White says the study will be completed some time this coming fall.
