Okoboji Entrepreneurial Institute About To Get Underway

(Arnolds Park)– Some big changes for this year’s Okoboji Entrepreneurial Institute. It gets underway Thursday and runs through the upcoming weekend. In the past the event wasn’t held until in August. Shannon Landauer of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, which puts on the institute, says it makes sense to hold it earlier in the summer…
“With all of the entrepreneurial activity on campuses for those universities and colleges that participate, those leaders felt like it would be good to move this up a little bit, put it in their summer curriculum. You know August is always a tough time as well as those kids are heading back to school. So this year we do have some changes so we thought it would be great to kind of test some things and see what the next evolution of the program may look like.”
The event will also be headquartered out of a different location this year: the Okoboji Bible Conference grounds in Arnolds Park. Landauer says 30 students from the University of Northern Iowa, Iowa State University, the University of Iowa and Iowa Lakes Community College will be participating again this year and will hear from a number of keynote speakers…
“You know, how to market. They’re going to talk about the financial aspects of the new venture; raising capital for startups and of course, we’re really excited again to be having the pitch competition. That’s always a great opportunity for kids to bring forward their projects and their ideas and learn from some that have gone through all of it.”
This will mark the 15th year for the Okoboji Entrepreneurial Institute.
