Construction About To Get Underway On Upgrades To Spirit Lake Little League Complex
June 17, 2022Steve Schwaller
(Spirit Lake)– A major upgrade to the little league fields in Spirit Lake is about to get underway. Brett Johnson is among those spearheading the Triple Play, or community park project. He reminds us as to what the plans are for the site…
“So it’s really going to tie in the school campus to the little league park through a pathway. We’re going to renovate the little league fields themselves. New playing surface, new fencing, dugouts, we’re going to irrigate the fields for a better, safer playing surface for everybody. It’s just going to be a great place, great environment, to really tie in the community park feel with the Spirit Lake school campus.”
Upgrades are also planned for the concession and restroom areas. He says it will compliment improvements that have already been made to an area just to the south of that…
“So you can make your way over south to the pickle ball courts, high school baseball/softball of course over there, basketball courts, tennis. So you really start to see the amenities pop here in the middle of summer as we go into fall and the area is going to come alive. So we’re really looking forward to next summer when we can all enjoy it.”
Johnson says construction is scheduled to start very soon as the little league season wraps up next week…
“We look forward to construction and you’ll see some action here soon out there, so feel free to stop by and check it out and we’ll be posting pictures of the progress on our social media page and around, so you’ll see that, so.”
Johnson says fundraising continues for the project, which has a total cost of about $370,000…
“We’re about 65 percent of the way there and plan to continue to fundraise through the project here. We are still taking donations, of course. We are a 501C3 organization, so tax deductible. You can get a hold of any board member. We’ll still be out on site, myself at Central Bank and Luke Donnenwerth at Bank Midwest.”
