(Okoboji)-A young woman from Spirit Lake is the featured Speaker at Iowa Lakeside Lab this evening. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Friends of Lakeside Lab will present the next installment of their Science Seminar Series on Tuesday evening with a talk by Spirit Lake Resident, Josie Hoien.
Josie says she’ll be discussing her experience in Alaska with the Juneau Icefield Research Program. “I went up to Southeast Alaska in the Summer of 2019 when I was still a student in college, and I spent two months traversing the Icefield, which is about an 82 kilometer traverse from Juneau to British Columbia. We did a lot of science along the way. I was part of a 36 student cohort, we had 8 safety staff, we had a revolving door of visiting researchers. A good opportunity to talk to professional scientists and do some science myself , and also to learn about Science Communication and Science Art, as well.”
She notes that her presentation will include images from her time in Alaska: “The power point I’m putting together is mostly images from the Icefield. It’s another world up there, and I’m excited for the opportunity to share that.”
Josie Hoien will speak at 7 o’clock Tuesday evening at Mahan Hall on the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory Campus. The talk is free and open to the public.
