(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office has released details into a single vehicle crash this past Sunday on the east edge of Spirit Lake on Highways 9 and 71. Authorities say 43-year-old Joseph Applegate of Estherville was driving a 2007 GMC Yukon eastbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. Deputies say the vehicle went into the south ditch and collided with a sign and a tree before coming to rest in a grove.
Applegate was suspected of having minor injuries but wasn’t taken to a hospital.
The vehicle was totaled.
