Iowa Lakeside Lab offering Volunteer Training for CLAMP May 21 and May 31

May 19, 2022 Becky Thoreson

(Okoboji)-Lakeside Lab is offering training for the CLAMP program. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Iowa Lakeside Laboratory is seeking volunteers for the Cooperative Lakes Area Monitoring Project, or CLAMP.

Education Coordinator Ashley Scheve says, several training sessions will be offered. “We have our training sessions, we have two this Saturday, the 21st. There’s one at 10 am and one at 1 pm, and then we have another one on May 31st at 10 am, and all three of them are at Lakeside Lab in our Waitt Building.”

She notes that the volunteers will gather samples to help monitor the health of the Iowa Great Lakes. “So, our volunteers, they pick a lake, and then they go out to that lake and they take water samples for us. They also do a couple of other measurements. They measure water temperature and they measure water turbidity, and then they bring some of those samples back to the Lab so that we can analyze them. All of the equipment is provided by Lakeside. The only thing the volunteer would need is a boat or a friend that has a boat. If you don’t have a boat though, you can still be a volunteer and we can pair volunteers up together so they can go out.”

The training is free, however registration is requested.
