Ribbon Cutting Set For Later This Month On New Trail Head In Spirit Lake

May 09, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– A ribbon cutting on the new trail head at the corner of Peoria Avenue and Lake Street in Spirit Lake will be held Saturday, May 21st. Erin Reed of Dickinson County Trails says the project was a collaboration of that organization and Imagine Iowa Great Lakes that was also made possible through grants and donations. She says a bike ride will be a part of the May 21st celebration…

“And with the ribbon cutting we’re excited to have a bike ride that will start at the trail head and will head over to Montgomery and back. It’s real easy. It’s flat and it’s five miles one way so you’re looking at a 10 mile relaxed bike ride.”

Reed says they’re especially proud of a number of amenities that will be available at the new trail head…

“Well of course restrooms is something for us to have on the trails and that will be great. And there will be shaded areas with picnic tables and benches. We’ll have a water fountain, charging station, bike racks, and a bike work station, so everything you need to take care of your bike. It’s a good place to start. You can go north or south on the spine trail or go west to Montgomery. So it will be kind of the central hub of getting together and getting on the trail. A lot of options to get where you want to go.”

Finishing touches are currently being put on the project.
