Spencer Property Owners With Ash Trees On Public Right-Of-Way May Soon Be Getting A Letter From City Officials

May 04, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Property owners in Spencer that have ash trees on public right-of-way may be getting a letter soon from the city. Jared Elbert oversees the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. He told the city council earlier this week the letters are being sent due to the confirmed presence of emerald ash borer in the city…

“Initially we won’t send that out to everybody that has a public ash tree, but right now we’re focusing more on some of those busier streets, safe routes to schools, along our park system, and we will have a letter out to those here within the next week or so, letting them know hey, you do have an ash tree on public right-of-way, here’s your options, here’s how we’re going to handle it.”

Experts say ash trees infected with emerald ash borer can pose a danger as the limbs become brittle over time and can easily fall, potentially causing property damage and/or personal injury.
