Iowa Lakeside Lab to host presentation by Cherie Haury-Artz with State Archaeologist’s Office

May 03, 2022 Becky Thoreson

(Okoboji)-Lakeside Lab will be hosting a special talk Tuesday evening. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Iowa Lakeside Laboratory will host a presentation by Cherie Haury-Artz, Specialist for the University of Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist.
Lakeside Executive Director Dr. Mary Skopec says, Artz will be discussing style and adornment through the ages. “We have one of the State Archaeologist’s Staff Members who is coming actually for a school program, and we decided to ask her to come and talk to the public about some interesting things in archaeology, specifically, you know, everybody likes to adorn themselves with fancy jewelry and that kind of thing, and that’s no different for us than it was in the ancient world, as well, and Cherie is going to talk about that with the public.”
She notes that Artz will be bringing artifacts for viewing. “Cherie will be bringing artifacts from the State Archaeological Office, and she will allow us to take a look at them, describe them, and sort of help us understand the kinds of materials that would have been used in the ancient world. The kinds of materials that were available to them like feathers and stones and beads and shells and that kind of thing.”
The program will start at 7 o’clock Wednesday evening at Mahan Hall on the Lakeside Lab Campus and is free and open to the public.
