Arnolds Park City Council Hears Update On Lake Street
May 03, 2022Steve Schwaller
(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park City Council was updated on progress on the Lake Street project during a special session held earlier this (Tues.) afternoon. Arnolds Park Amusement Park CEO Jon Pausley…
“We just got word that the 18th of May is when the street is going to open for vehicles again. The project won’t be fully finished but the 18th is when it’s going to be open at least for somebody to drive down there if they need to, so we’re just really excited about that. It’s obviously a beautiful ending to a beautiful project and we’re excited to get everybody back down there walking and being able to view the lake from the street again.”
The council also reviewed the times the street will be closed to traffic during the upcoming season. The closures will be in effect Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 3:00 pm, with the street re-opening when the park closes those evenings at 7:00 pm. The street will be closed all day on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, with the street reopening Sundays at 7:00 pm. Pausley says it’s a precautionary measure…
“Absolutely. Safety of pedestrians is a top priority. We want to make sure that everybody down there with all of the activity happening is staying safe. And then, obviously, the farmer’s market on Saturday morning and some of the activities that take place on the weekends. It’s just nice of the city to allow us to close the street off just for safety and security and enjoyment of everyone.”
Pausley also gave us an update on the stage project at Preservation Plaza…
“Obviously the weather this spring has not been ideal, but the crews are working hard, working late hours six days a week and we’re still shooting for July 4th to have it all wrapped up, to be able to have a big concert down there that evening.”
And as far as the amusement park itself is concerned, Pausley says they’ll be featuring a new ride this season…
“It’s going to be where the old playground used to be that was taken out. We’re going to have a spin ride in there so it’s going to be fun to get some new people down there to see some new spaces, some new rides, and then all of our favorite classics as well. Our team is working real hard to get everything up and running and just a big shout out to the team because the season has not been ideal with weather, but we’re going to be ready May 21st. It’s going to be a great season.”
As Pausley eluded, Arnolds Park will open for the season Saturday, May 21st.
