H-LP School Board Hires Interim Superintendent

May 03, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Lake Park)– The Harris-Lake Park School Board approved the hiring of an interim superintendent during a special meeting Monday evening. School Board President Doug Stahly tells KUOO news Les Douma of Orange City was hired following an interview with him in closed session…

“The board, we were really pleased with Les. He has a long history of a lot of just experience, wide ranging of principals, superintendents, he’s been with the AEA five years, coached a lot of basketball at Northwestern. So really a lot of experience. I think he’s really going to be good for our school district, really going to bring some things to the table. His experience at this point is really going to help us.”

Stahly says Douma brings a lot to the table that will fit in nicely with some projects they have coming up in the near future…

“Really kind of what our school district needs at the moment with some upcoming, maybe, construction projects in the loop and some real experience to handle some of those things, and just a lot of knowledge on education and communication with staff and administration, teachers, and the community in general. So we’re really, really pleased to have him.”

Douma succeeds Andy Irwin who will be resigning July 1st to become superintendent at a school district in southwest Iowa.
