2022 Gillnetting Operations Described As A Big Success

April 29, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Orleans)– Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say this year’s gill netting operations were another success in spite of the unusually cold conditions. Crews collected enough walleyes to produce 796 quarts of eggs at the Spirit Lake fish hatchery and 900 quarts at the Rathbun facility. Netting crews at Storm Lake collected 205 quarts of walleye eggs, which were transported to the Spirit Lake hatchery.

Crews at Spirit Lake also collected 195 northern pike that produced more than 1.6 million fry and 93 muskellunge that are currently being spawned in the hatchery.
