Officials Investigating Source Of Diesel Spill Into Silver Lake At Lake Park

April 22, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Lake Park)– Officials are investigating the source of a diesel spill at Silver Lake at Lake Park. Dickinson County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret tells KUOO news crews were called to the Trapper’s Bay area around 7:00 pm Thursday…

“A passerby reported seeing a sheen on the water and they could also smell fuel in the water so they reported it. The Lake Park Fire Department came out, we also had the Spirit Lake Fire Department bring over some supplies, the Milford Fire Department brought up the county haz mat trailer. We did what we could with it at the time. We put some booms at the bridge there to try and contain it at least in Trapper’s Bay and to prevent any more from getting into the lake. That was about all we were able to do last night. We had the DNR involved, of course, since it was on the water, and at this point they’re working on the investigation to find out where it happened, how it happened and all of that good stuff.”

Ehret says the spill has since stopped. He says as of this (Friday) morning there have been no signs of a fish kill or any environmental harm. Crews will continue to monitor things throughout the day.
