(Des Moines)– A key Senator says the Iowa House has approved a “meaningless” plan to stop carbon pipeline developers from applying for eminent domain condemnation. Senator Dennis Guth (like “tooth) is a Republican from Klemme. He says the Iowa Utilities Board chair told him there’s absolutely no way the eminent domain process would be even close to completion by Feburary 1st. Guth says the bill does “absolutely nothing” and doesn’t belong in the state budget. He says he’s not going to include it.
Guth says he’s working with the Utilities Board and Senate leaders on a measure that would restrict what eminent domain can be used for.
Pipeline developers want to ship carbon to underground storage sites in North Dakota or Illinois.
