(Sibley)– A house fire has claimed the life of a Sibley man.
The Sibley and Ashton Fire Departments were called to 426 10th Street west in Sibley around 11:00 pm Sunday and found a detached garage and a lower portion of the home engulfed. Firefighters attempted to gain entry to the residence but had to back out due to unsafe conditions. The body of a 73-year-old man was later discovered in the residence. The identity of the victim hasn’t been released pending notification of family members.
Authorities say a dog also died in the fire.
The house was destroyed, and a vehicle in the driveway was heavily damaged.
The cause of the fire is unknown as of now. The State Fire Marshal was on the scene earlier today (Monday).
