(Storm Lake)-The State Objection Panel on Tuesday denied a challenge issued regarding a Republican candidate running for District 3 of the Iowa Senate.
Last week, Lynn Evans of Aurelia, the other Republican running to represent the Iowa Senate in District 3, filed an objection regarding the candidacy of Anthony LaBruna. Evans argued that LaBruna hasn’t been a legal resident of Iowa for one year as required by state law in order to qualify for the November ballot. LaBruna said that he’s been an Iowa resident for the last six years.
The Panel denied the objection, clearing the way for LaBruna, who resides in Storm Lake, to run against Evans in the June primary election. In a statement released last week, Evans said he would welcome LaBruna to the campaign trail if the state determined that he meets all requirements.
There is no Democrat on the ballot for Iowa Senate District 3, which includes parts of Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, and O’Brien counties.
