Spirit Lake High School Music Department will present Jazz & Eats March 31 at Wesley Place

March 30, 2022 Becky Thoreson

(Spirit Lake)-The Spirit Lake High School Music Department will present Jazz & Eats on Thursday evening.

Band Director Tyler Pedersen says the event will help defray traveling costs for students:

“Here at the Spirit Lake High School Music Department, we’ve had a really successful season, with both our Vocal Jazz Ensemble, which is called Lake Effect, and the High School Jazz Band. Both of those groups have made it to their respective local Jazz Championships. In fact, as we are speaking right now, the Vocal Jazz group is down in West Des Moines performing at their Vocal Jazz, and the High School Jazz Band will be traveling on April 5th down to Ames to play, and as part of both of those trips, the kids are going to be staying the night in both Des Moines and then Ames, respectively, so we thought it would be a good idea to put on a little concert as a way to come up with a few funds to sort of defray the cost of the housing, basically. So, we’re going to do a show at Wesley Place in downtown Spirit Lake on the 31st of March at 7 o’clock. We’re going to have a pasta meal, kind of buffet style, and the both groups performing.”

He says tickets are available at the High School:

“Tickets are for sale at the Spirit Lake High School main office. You just tell them that you’re looking for a ticket to our show Jazz & Eats. We’ll be selling them all the way up to the end of the day Thursday, but capacity for the room is capped at 100, so we’re hoping to fill the whole room up and if can do that, the funds that we’re going to raise basically should cover the entire cost of traveling for those groups. So, we’re pretty excited about it, plus having another performance opportunity for the kids is always great.”

Jazz & Eats will start at 7 o’clock Thursday evening at Wesley Place, located just south of Spirit Lake City Hall. Access will be through the back parking lot next to he Methodist Church.”
