Iowa Lakes Community College to host Dog Grooming Competition April 2-3 on Emmetsburg Campus

March 24, 2022 Becky Thoreson

(Emmetsburg)-There’s a Dog Grooming Competition coming up at Iowa Lakes Community College. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Iowa Lakes Community College and the Professional Dog Grooming Program will host a Grooming Competition on April 2-3 in Emmetsburg.

Continuing Education Coordinator Sierra Elbert says, the event will feature the competition and vendors. “We have over 12 vendors, all things dog-related, and then, we have classes. That’s pretty much geared toward the dog groomer, but then, we also have the competition pretty much all day Saturday and Sunday. There’s 6 different contests that you could watch and just see shaggy, hairy dogs turn out to be masterpieces.”

She notes that the event will highlight the Dog Grooming Program at the college. “A lot of people know we’re here, but even some local people don’t even know that our college here at Iowa Lakes Community College has a dog grooming program. So, this will be cool to showcase what we’re doing, and there’s more to the groomer that you bring your pet to. There’s tons of education they pay for, there’s tons of private lessons they take so they can compete.”

The event will be held in the Wellness Center Gym on the Emmetsburg Campus starting at 9 am each day and is open to the public for a $5 fee.
