(Storm Lake)– The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has confirmed a second case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Buena Vista county. Officials say the latest discovery was made in a flock of commercial layer chickens. The first case in Buena Vista county was found in a commercial turkey flock March 6th.
Flock owners are highly urged to keep their birds separate from wild birds and to ramp up biosecurity measures.
Sick birds should be reported to the Iowa Department of Agriculture at 515-281-5305.
