(Storm Lake)– A Storm Lake man was arrested following a high-speed chase Tuesday reaching speeds of over 100-miles-per-hour.
The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office says it started around 5:30 pm Tuesday when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for erratic driving on Highway 7 in Alta. The driver refused to pull over. The chase went west of Alta on Highway 7, and then onto some gravel roads north of the highway. The pursuit continued on Highway 7, as well as gravel roads between Alta and Storm Lake.
The driver, 19-year-old Jafet Almendarez of Storm Lake, lost control of the vehicle while traveling west on 600th Street. The vehicle entered the south ditch east of 70th Avenue and rolled several times.
Almendarez was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail, where he was charged with Eluding, a class D felony…OWI 2nd Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor…and numerous traffic violations.
The Storm Lake Fire Department, Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, and Storm Lake Towing also responded to the accident scene.
