(Spirit Lake)-The Spirit Lake Music Department is seeking volunteers for an upcoming event. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Spirit Lake High School Music Department will be hosting the Iowa High School Music Association’s Solo and Ensemble Contest on March 26.
Band Director Tyler Pedersen says hundreds of students will be participating. “The Solo/Ensemble Contest is an event that is sanctioned by the Iowa High School Music Association, and there’s one held in all the 6 regions in the State of Iowa. They’re organized by class, and so on the 26th of March, we’ll be hosting the Class 3A competition for Northwest Iowa for our region. We’ll have schools from Sergeant Bluff, Sioux City, Le Mars, Sioux Center, Sheldon and Spirit Lake all participating on that day. During that day, we’re going to have somewhere between 300 and 350 performances that will happen in 7 different centers located throughout the high school facility.”
He adds that volunteers are needed to help facilitate the contest. “We’re looking for people to help out as center monitors for each of the 7 centers. We need about 3 people at a time for each center, between the actual performance room and then, each center has a warm up space, which also needs a person to monitor it, as well as help with basic logistical things and concessions, which we’ll run for the students while they’re here that day.”
