March 01, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Sioux City)– A Spencer man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison on meth and firearms charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 31-year-old Joshua Currier pleaded guilty in October of last year to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and illegal possession of a firearm. Currier was previously convicted of forgery in Dickinson county on or about June 13th, 2011, and domestic assault impeding flow of air/blood in Clay county on or about August 9th, 2017. Those convictions prohibit Currier from carrying a firearm. Evidence showed that between January 2020 and about February 2021, Currier and others conspired to distribute at least five kilograms of methamphetamine. Evidence also showed that in December 2020, Currier traded a nine millimeter pistol and meth to settle a drug debt.

The case was investigated by the Spencer Police Department, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Iowa DCI Laboratory.
