Dickinson County Supervisors Hold Max Levy Hearing

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson County Supervisors today (Tues.) held a public hearing on the county’s maximum tax levy being proposed for the upcoming fiscal year. County Auditor Lori Petersen says it pertains to both the general basic and rural basic portions of the county’s proposed budget…
“We have to say how much dollars we’re levying and if it’s over two percent of what was levied the prior year you have to have a super majority vote to pass the resolution. This year it looks like ours will be 4.78 percent on the general levy and 4.40 on the rural basic. I might add too, though, that Dickinson county general basic, your max levy you can levy is $3.50 per thousand dollars of valuation. We’re currently at the 2.45135 and then rural basic the max is 3.95 and we’re at 2.44. Like I said we’re a pretty lucky county in the fact that some of the smaller counties that maybe don’t have the valuation that we do have to tap into what they call supplemental general and rural levies where they actually have to take the benefits and things like that out of it. We don’t have to do that.”
The supervisors also today (Tues.) set March 15th as the date for a public hearing on the county’s overall budget being proposed for the upcoming fiscal year.
