Spencer Chamber Making Changes To Its Leadership Program

February 21, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– The Spencer Chamber of Commerce is revamping one of its popular programs. Executive Director Sheriffa Jones says they’re in the process of developing a new Leadership Spencer Program…

“Really the jest of the program currently is that it meets for 10 weeks and each of the week is about a two hour session covering different topics from government leadership to nonprofits, you know, hospital and social wellness programs and things like that. And what we really want to do and what we’re finding nationally and also throughout the state of Iowa is that more leadership programs are going to day long sessions and that they’re really, the participants are really getting an eight hour in-depth day of what is really going on in government and leadership and so that they’re really able to get more in-depth of the local concerns and issues.”

Jones says as a result, the current program will be on a one-year hiatus…

“Basically it would happen from March through May, so we will not be having on this March through May anticipating that we can have it ready to launch in the fall so that then it basically follows a school year as well. So maybe it would launch in August or September and then go through May as well.”

Jones says the new program will likely feature additional components, including tours and other educational opportunities.
