The Shake the Lakes Choir Competition will be held in Spirit Lake this weekend, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Spirit Lake Music Boosters will host the Shake the Lakes Show and Jazz Choir Competition on Friday and Saturday at the Sami Bedell Center for the Performing Arts.
Kerri McKim with the Booster Club says choirs will be coming from 3 states. “This is a huge event for the community and it’s also a huge event for the Spirit Lake Music Boosters. This event brings about 2,000 to 2,500 people to town.”
She notes that the public is welcome to attend. “Tickets for Friday night’s performance of the Middle School, it’s $5 for all ages, except preschoolers are free, and then, Saturday, tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students. Those tickets will get you all day long of music so, just a chance for folks to come out and really support the kids.”
She adds that the event is a big fundraiser for the Booster Club. “This is a tremendous fundraiser. It raises a good deal of money that supports all the music programs across the Spirit Lake District. So, it’s not just that this is a fundraiser for our Show Choir Program or our Vocal Music Program. The funds raised here go back to support also our Instrumental Programs, and all the things we do Fine arts related at Spirit Lake.”
