Okoboji Council Discusses Water Bill Late Fees; Sets Public Hearing On ATV-UTV Ordinance Revision

(Okoboji)– The Okoboji City Council Tuesday evening approved some internal policies that pertain to water bill collections. City Administrator Michael Meyers says it pertains to late fees…
“You know frequently we have people who approach us and want a late fee waived for numerous different reasons and this just kind of formalizes an internal process so that the city staff can waive a late fee once every 24 months for Okoboji residents. This was kind of born out of a resident came to a city council meeting in the middle of 2021 and gave compelling evidence to push this process forward.”
The Okoboji City Council also Tuesday set a date for a public hearing on a proposed revision to an ordinance regulating the use of ATV’s and UTV’s in the city. Meyers says it pertains to the hours as to when they can be operated in the city…
“We had a resident approach the council and request that we conform more with our neighbors to the north and south in Spirit Lake and Arnolds Park and extend our hours. Currently our ordinance states that ATV’s have to stop being on the roads at sunset and we’re looking to either make that 24 hours or 11:00 pm. And really it’s something, that especially in the winter, that will help out folks who are out on the lake ice fishing and just need to get back home. So we just want to conform with our neighbors to the north and south to make things more reasonable for those traversing through the city.”
The public hearing is set for the council’s next regular meeting, March 8th.
