An important fundraiser is on tap for the Humane Society this weekend. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Humane Society of Northwest Iowa will hold their annual BINGO Fundraiser on Sunday at the Dickinson County Expo Center.
Shelter Manager Haley Dirks says, the event will include lunch and prizes. “We’re starting lunch at 11:30. That will go until about 1 o’clock. Once lunch is done, we’ll get going into BINGO, and we have 20 games of normal BINGO, and then one game for the grand prize is blackout. We have some pretty neat prizes.”
She notes that proceeds will help with important services that the shelter provides. “This BINGO is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. We have our other fundraising event in June, but it really supplies the funds that we need throughout the year because we’re not government funded. So, we need every little bit that we can get.”
She adds that donations are always welcome. “We’re always looking for monetary donations. Monetary donations help our with our Vet bills. We’re starting a new food program, so we’re changing over to some better quality food for our animals. We pay for that out of pocket, but we get a discount because we are a nonprofit, which is pretty amazing. Otherwise, if they’re looking for supply donations, we’re always, always in need of clumping cat litter, cat toys, dog toys. I mean, just about anything you can imagine.”
