(Storm Lake)– Two arrests have been made in connection to a pursuit that took place in Buena Vista County this past Friday night. The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office says it started after they received a report of a vehicle being driven recklessly on Highway 7 east of Alta. A deputy located the suspect vehicle a short time later and pulled it over after noticing several traffic infractions. During the traffic stop, the driver, 23-year-old Leticia Velasquez-Hernandez of Storm Lake, sped away while law enforcement attempted to identify a male passenger. The ensuing pursuit went through Storm Lake, and continued north on Highway 71. The vehicle eventually pulled over and the passenger, 39-year-old Jesus Avila-Miranda of Storm Lake, exited the vehicle and fled east on foot. Velasquez-Hernandez again refused to stop the vehicle, and continued north on Highway 71.
Velasquez-Hernandez was later taken into custody and charged with Eluding, an aggravated misdemeanor, as well as various traffic offenses.Avila-Miranda was taken into custody Saturday morning and was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, a serious misdemeanor…and Providing False Information to Law Enforcement, and Interference With Official Acts, both simple misdemeanors.
