The Okoboji Vintage Ice Drags will be held this coming weekend, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The World Series Vintage Ice Drags will be held on East Lake Okoboji this weekend.
Co-Director Chris Duncan says there are several classes of vintage snowmobiles that will be racing. “We have Vintage Ice Drags on a 500 foot shaved track. We have 4 lanes, 25 foot in each lane, and we run old sleds up to 1989 in the stock classes, mod stock and pro stock. Then, we have a vintage open mod class that we allow sleds up to 1995 motors. We also have classic improved stock, classic pro stock, which are sleds up to 2002 with various rules. We’re going to have a pro open mod this year that’s basically an anything goes type deal. This year, we’re hosting what we’re calling the 2022 World Series Vintage Ice Drags. 1987 was the last had a World Series here.”
He adds that the races are free and open to the public. “Anybody that wants to come down and watch, there’s no fee to come and watch this race. We’re right there at The Ritz. They’ve got stuff at the deck, they’re going to have the upstairs open from my understanding. You can watch the race from the trestle. You can watch the race from the new parking area. You know what, we just want people to come and enjoy the race.”
